The Most Suitable Material for Food Consumption: Porcelain

Porcelain Offers the Highest Level of Hygiene for Food Contact

At a time when hygiene has become a top priority, the cleanliness of products that come into contact with food is just as critical as personal hygiene. Made from natural raw materials and fired at temperatures of up to 1400°C, porcelain stands out as the most suitable material for food consumption, as its surface does not harbor bacteria or germs.

Porcelain derives its whiteness from its natural raw materials and is widely preferred in many areas of life, from gastronomy to art and decoration, thanks to its aesthetic appearance, ease of use, and healthy composition. Produced from a blend of naturally sourced materials such as clay, kaolin, quartz, potassium feldspar, calcite, and dolomite, porcelain is fired at extremely high temperatures during production. With its fully vitrified structure, porcelain does not absorb water, does not crack, and does not scratch. As a result, it does not retain liquids, dirt, microbes, or other harmful substances.

Prevents the Formation of Areas Where Microbes Can Thrive

Emphasizing that porcelain’s natural composition and high-temperature firing process bring together health and hygiene for users, Porland Board Member İmge Pamukçu shared the following insights on the properties of porcelain: “In today’s conditions, illnesses can spread very quickly. During a time when we are striving to protect our health, the hygiene of products that come into contact with food is just as important as personal hygiene. For this reason, porcelain, the healthiest food and beverage container in the world, should be preferred. Porcelain is hygienic. Thanks to its glazed surface, dirt and microbes are easy to remove and clean. It is clean and highly durable. Its glaze does not scratch or crack, which prevents the formation of areas where microbes can settle and multiply.”

“Porcelain Should Be the First Choice for Food Contact”

Pointing out that the durable structure of porcelain provides an additional level of hygiene, İmge Pamukçu added “When heat is distributed evenly, porcelain can easily reach the desired temperature level, which contributes to extra hygiene. It is a healthy material. As the most highly fired product within the ceramic family, porcelain has a fully vitrified structure that completely prevents water absorption. This means that no liquid, dirt, microbe, or similar harmful substance can penetrate its surface. Porcelain is the most suitable material for food consumption. For this reason, when it comes to food contact, porcelain should always be the first choice for health.”
